About Stop Diarrhoea Initiative

Stop Diarrhoea Initiative is a signature programme of Save the Children, in partnership with Reckitt Benckiser. The programme was envisaged to contribute to RB and Save the Children’s global ambition of removing diarrhoea as a top five leading cause of death amongst children by 2020. In line with the Save the Children’s Theory of Change, the programme will: test the effectiveness and efficacy of the WHO/UNICEF 7 point plan; collate evidence to demonstrate proof of concept and value for money, and advocate for the state and national government and its partners to replicate and scale up the approach nationally.

Interventions

WASH Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) is an integral part of Stop Diarrhoea Initiative (SDI)
HEALTHDiarrhoea remains the second leading cause of death among children under five globally. Nearly one in five child deaths – about 1.5 million each year – is due to diarrhoea. It kills more young children than AIDS, malaria and measles combined
SBCCMaking Change Possible, making communities aware and communicating in a manner that leads from knowledge to practice. With increased awareness on all components of the 7 point plan, our studies and researches have shown that rarely are people unaware that poor sanitation leads to disease
ADVOCACYSave the Children’s advocacy framework is based on its extensive experience advocating for the rights of children and is directed at central and state governments
EVALUATION / MONITORINGThe quality framework is rooted in an integrated approach to MEAL (Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning) and provides a basis for continuous improvement of the programme’s delivery model
