Communication Tools

To promote positive social and behavior change among individuals, systems and communities; Stop Diarrhea Initiative developed a communication strategy to address the interests of the people that we are trying to reach in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Uttrakhand, Delhi and West Bengal. The strategy includes the barriers to taking action along the lines of WHO and UNICEF 7-point plan for diarrhea treatment and control. The communication objective is to ensure that no child (under-five) suffers from preventable and treatable diarrheal diseases. The SBCC strategy is based on evidence from desk review, baseline study done in the early part of the project and KAPB study done by Save the Children, India. The strategy takes into account the many forces that influence behavior and choice. The communication campaign developed in line with the SBCC strategy is evidence based and addresses integrated approach of protect, prevent and treat. The focus is on multiple level of change which includes individuals, family, community and social enabling environment. A media mix of mass media, IPC and advocacy tools for individual and community engagement combined with improvement in health service delivery is used.Based on the strategy, a communication package is developed with a media mix of mass media, IPC and advocacy for individual and community engagement combined with improvement in health service delivery is developed. The communication package uses interactive and participative approach to ensure a holistic view of people’s desires and needs and the barriers and facilitators to motivate behavior change in the areas of health, nutrition and WASH
